Introduction of Furniture Design & Selection Process
The furniture tender suggested criteria for design and practicality to the large budget. Our understanding of the interior design aspirations allowed us to select the correct product to meet the demands of the end users. The University project teams carried out various visits and the ranges were selected from Senator's Intrigue amongst various other ranges to compliment the overall design brief.
Part of the brief was to maintain some individuality for the PHD researchers but also promote a team approach to the newly structured departments.
Design
The light transfusion was achieved by using medium height frosted acrylic screens on the workstations. Individual offices were fitted out with deliberately contrasting designed desking.
Storage for books were accommodated in White bookcases. Intrigue desking legs are triple sided and the tops are 120° shaped, complementing the angular form of the building walls.
Products Used
Intrigue desking, Sprint Seating, White Steel Bookcases, White High density Storage, Coloured Locker Pods and Pebble break out stools.
Practicality
High density storage was provided using White pivoting double store for existing files and was complimented with 900 open fronted bookcases finished also in White.
Sustainability
All products supplied for the project were from FSC accredited sources. Southerns Office Interiors won the 2007 Best Environmental Practices award, and are now ISO 14001 Accredited.
Results
We believe that this scheme has a stunning result in terms of the synergy of the furniture provided by ourselves and the building aspects. Using White on White finish has softened the storage impact. We have provided a truly modernistic and contemporary feel allowing the users a new start from the older accommodation that they are used to.
